How social media can impact on your visa application
As part of processing your visa application DIBP may and can use different methods including Internet and social media searches e.g. Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn (amongst others) for information on the visa applicant/s, qualifications, education, past and current employers, sponsoring business, and/or family sponsor. DIBP can use relevant information found publicly when deciding your visa application.
Just look at a case in the Federal Circuit Court, AEN16 v Minister for Immigration & Anor, (2016) FCCA 2039 (23 August 2016). On the visa applicants Facebook page his religion was Muslim but he had stated in his visa application he had converted to Christianity. The visa applicant’s information on Facebook was found to be inconsistent with details he supplied in his visa application and the Judge confirmed to refuse his visa application.
We would recommend you are diligence to ensure information is current, accurate and consistent with all your documents, social media sites and visa application.
